Dalyan and Caunos are generally considered two of the most striking spots in this area. Arriving first at the tiny village of Dalyan by coach, you will board a motorboat that will take you down the riverĀ“s winding canals and through a maze of reeds on the Dalyan River delta. Cotton plantations and fields alternating with little islands covered in reed thickets will unroll before your eyes. During your journey down the river, you will see the famous temple-tombs of the ancient kings carved into the rocky cliffs before arriving in ancient Caunos. Here, you will walk up the bare hillside to the ruins of the ancient city where you will see the Roman theatre surrounded by other buildings and a Roman bath. In the 5th Century BC, Caunos was a thriving city with its own port. However, the silting of the ancient harbor ended the affluence of the city. After visiting the ancient city, the motorboat will take you back to Dalyan where you will enjoy lunch in a local seafood restaurant before taking. Return journey to Marmaris.
